The journey of Childraise Trust had it's beginning in www.childraise.com which was launched on 3rd December, 2001 on the eve of World Disability Day.This website is committed to the empowerment of Special children & Disability Issues. It is a Cross Disability web portal. www.childraise.com is conceptualised and compiled by Mrs. Kavita D. Shanbhag.
ChildRaise Trust is the outcome of Kavita's personal experience. She had onset of Epilepsy-(tendency to have recurrent seizures) during her pregnancy. Soon after her diagnosis, she realized that her son has Learning Difficulties. It was a harrowing time having to run from pillar to post for information, guidance & remedial therapy. During this time she started collecting every bit of information for further use. She completed her B.Ed in Special Education & became a remedial Educator. Fortunately, both of them could overcome their problems with their family's whole-hearted support & continued efforts. This motivated her to start the website "ChildRaise.com" which focuses on the special children; their abilities, rehabilitation, inclusion and disability-related information and services.
Sensing the limited use of internet among the parents especially the mothers who are more comfortable having a book with them, In 2004, once again on world Disability day, Kavita released a resource guide "Journey to Empowerment - A Roadmap for Special Children". Over the next few years, the activities did not limit themselves only to the website. Exhibitions, Workshops, Painting competitions followed. As the work started expanding, the need was felt to make ChildRaise, a registered public trust. In 2006, the activity which started with a website culminated in the formation of a Trust. Over the last three years, ChildRaise Trust has started a Remedial & Counseling Centre. Recently, ChildRaise Activity centre for children with Autism & other Developmental Disabilities has been started. Now with a dedicated team of Trustees, professionals and volunteers, ChildRaise is forging ahead with the vision of inclusive society and equal opportunities to people with disabilities.
