THE NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Top

  • 500 National scholarships are awarded to eligible students with disabilities for pursuing technical and professional courses from recognized institutions.
  • Financial Assistance is given for computer with editing software for blind/deaf graduate and post graduate students pursuing professional courses and for support access software for cerebral palsy students.
  • Scholarship of Rs.1000/-p.m. for hostellers and Rs.700/- p.m. for day scholars studying in professional courses at graduation and above level, and Rs.700/- p.m. for hostellers and Rs.400/- p.m. for day scholars pursuing Diploma /certificate level professional. Course fee is reimbursed upto ceiling of Rs.10,000/- per year.

The eligible students with disabilities should submit their applications for scholarship in prescribed format duly countersigned and recommended by the head of the institution, where they are studying, so as to reach, complete in all respects to: NHFDC

11th N.C.P.E.D.P. Shell Helen Keller Awards announced

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: The winners of the much coveted N.C.P.E.D.P. Shell Helen Keller Awards for 2009 have been announced. This is the 11th edition of these awards instituted by National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (N.C.P.E.D.P.), to honour individuals and organisations who have been working towards promoting equal opportunities and providing gainful employment for persons with disabilities. The Awards will be given on December 2nd in New Delhi.

The Awards are given away in 3 categories - role model disabled persons, non-disabled role model supporters and companies, organisations or institutions who demonstrate their belief in equal rights and gainful employment for persons with disabilities.

The winners under the role model disabled persons category this year are Dr. Meenu Bhambhani (Head, Corporate Social Responsibility, MphasiS); Nupur Jain (Senior Executive, Wipro Ltd.); and Dr. Sam Taraporevala (Director, Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged). Mani Ram Sharma and G.J. Siddharth have been given a special mention.

Under the non-disabled role model supporters category Dhruv Lakra, Founder and C.E.O. of Mirakle Couriers; Team I.T. comprising of N. Ravi Shanker, Dr. Govind, Neeta Verma and Dr. S.K. Aggarwal; and Vikas Sharma (posthumously) have been awarded. I.B.M. India Private Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation (N.T.P.C.) Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited (S.A.I.L.) and Wipro Limited bagged the honours under the disabled friendly corporate category.

Several nominations were filed for the Awards that subsequently went through a rigorous selection process. The Selection Committee comprised of Dr. V. Krishnamurthy (Chairman, N.C.P.E.D.P.); Som Mittal (President, N.A.S.S.C.O.M.); Deepak Mukarji (Country Head, Corporate Affairs, Shell India Private Limited); and Preeti Mehra (Deputy Editor, The Hindu Business Line).

National Awards for the Persons with Disabilities (PWD)

The award was instituted in the year 1969 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (Govt. of India) to recognise the achievements of individuals and institutions that are working for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

The scheme has been amended to include awards to placement officers, eminent individuals, outstanding institutions and for outstanding inventions by technologists. These awards are being presented every year from 1999 on 3rd December -International Day of the Persons with Disability.

NCPEDP- Shell Helen Keller Award

Instituted in 1999, the N.C.P.E.D.P.-Shell Helen Keller awards recognizes the exemplary work of persons/corporates/ organizations who are helping disabled people find positions of equality and dignity in their worksphere. The Selection Committee comprises eminent personalities from industry and the disability sector. Nominations are considered under five categories.

CavinKare Ability Awards

CavinKare ABILITY Awards were instituted in 2003 to honour achievers with disabilities who have soared beyond conventional barriers to realise their chosen dreams. They are national awards recognising exemplary services as well as accomplishments of the achievers. The awards come in two categories: CavinKare ABILITY Award for Eminence is given to 1 person with disability, who has demonstrated a commitment to others that goes beyond personal triumphs.

CavinKare ABILITY Mastery Awards are given to 2 persons who haven't allowed their disability to become a barrier in attaining excellence in their field.
